Working on the Second Table
At this point, the second table is coming along quite well. As you can see from the picture below, the top has been milled and recently glued up. After a day setting up to dry, we removed the top from the clamps and sanded off all excess glue. We have begun to work our way through the different grits but there is still some sanding left to do.
With regards to the rest of the pieces they are also coming along quite well. The picture below shows a stockpile of milled parts. Some of these parts still need final dimensioning such as the aprons and the legs. Other parts are already at final dimensions such as the stretcher. Production will be halted for a week due to spring break. However once spring break is complete work on the table will resume. Everything can be cut to final dimension the day we get back from spring break and the pieces can all be sanded. As soon as sanding in complete the table will be ready for a dry fit. Once the dry fit has been tested and all the kinks have been worked the glue up can take place the following day. With all this said the table should be completed by March 18th.
As you might be able to see from the picture above, we have already begun work on some of the parts for table 3 as well. Even though we haven’t completed table 2 at this point it was more efficient to continue work on the parts we could produce than to sit idly by and do nothing. Also, having designated the responsibilities of different parts to different people has allowed us to focus on one specialty aspect of the table. This allows us learn as we produce more tables and hopefully get better and faster as production continues. Hopefully table 3 will be ready at a quicker pace than table 2 and hopefully table 4 will be ready even faster.
