CNRE Awards Banquet

This week at the Wood Enterprise Institute was a busy week. Brooks Whitehurst, a sponsor of the WEI came to tour the Wood Design and Innovation Center on Tuesday, April 12th. This was the same day as the CNRE awards banquet.

Earlier in the year, a group of the WEI team members had lunch with Mr.Whitehurst. He spent the whole lunch cracking jokes; at the end of lunch he pulled a box out of his pocket. Before opening it he asked the team a question: "how do you make a zero calorie quarter pounder?" Every one of the students looked at him in confusion, unsure of how to answer. Everyone was stunned when he finally opened the box. It did, in fact, contain a zero calorie quarter pounder. It was a small wooden mallet attached to a paper clip, which moved to hit a quarter positioned underneath it.

Later that evening at the CNRE awards banquet the Wood Enterprise Institute team presented a

gift to Mr. Whitehurst at the banquet. The gift was a zero calorie quarter pounder. However this

one was made of the wood from the white oak from the grove and the sycamore from the Henderson lawn. The whole room exploded in applause, and Mr.Whitehurst was touched by this gift. The team hopes we were able to show him how thankful we are for his support of the program.
